Firefox 65 simplifies anti-tracking filters and supports AV1 and webp

Mozilla has released Firefox 65. The new version of the browser has simpler settings to prevent third-party tracking. Also, the new version supports AV1 video compression method and webp images.

In Firefox 65’s settings, users will find three options to prevent tracking. The Standard option only blocks trackers in private windows, the Strict option does that in normal windows as well. With this option, Mozilla warns that it can negatively affect the functioning of websites. There is also a Custom option, where users can choose which trackers are blocked where.

Also new in Firefox version 65 is the support for AV1. That only works for Windows users for now. Mozilla helped develop AV1, an open standard for video compression. According to the makers, AV1 is currently thirty percent better than competing standards such as hevc and vp9 and will improve further.

In addition, Firefox 65 supports the webp image format, which was developed by Google. Mozilla has also added a new Task Manager, which can be seen by typing about:performance. This page allows users to see, among other things, how much memory certain tabs or add-ons use.
