ASRock has announced the iBOX-8265U, a compact barebone that provides the company with Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7s from Intel’s Whiskey Lake generation. It is one of the first mini PCs with Whiskey Lake processors.

Intel announced the first three Whiskey Lake processors for laptops last August, and many laptops with those chips have appeared since then, but no compact desktop PCs yet. ASRock changes that with the iBOX-8265U. The manufacturer supplies the mini PC with metal housing with the i3-8145U, i5-8265U or i7-8565U. Those processors have TDPs of 15W and the Core i3 is a dual-core, while the i5 and i7 are quad-cores.

The iBOX includes two USB 2.0 ports on the front and two 3.0 variants on the back. HDMI and display port are also present, and there is also a SATA connection for a 2.5 “storage medium. An m2 interface is not present.

ASRock does not announce whether the barebone will appear in Europe and the price is also unknown. Since the company targets the internet-of-things, kiosk and signage market with the product, there is no guarantee that the system will appear here. As Fanless Tech notes, there’s a good chance that more mini PCs with Intel Whiskey Lake processors will appear at the end of May at the Taiwan Computex fair.
