Sony announces compact camera RX0 II that can record 4k video
Sony has announced the successor to the RX0 released two years ago. The RX0 II still has a 1″ sensor and 15.3-megapixel resolution but now supports 4k video recording. The housing measures 59×40.5×35 mm and the weight is 132 grams.
This makes the RX0 II slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor. That is the result of the addition of an LCD that can be tilted 180 degrees up and 90 degrees down. The camera can shoot video in 4k resolution at 30fps and there is also a Super Slow Motion function for 1000fps recording with uncompressed 4k output via HDMI. Also new is the image stabilization.
Up to five RX0 II cameras can be controlled simultaneously with the Imaging Edge mobile app, but a special access point will be launched in the summer that will allow control of fifty cameras and for those that are not enough: the RX0 II is compatible with the CCB -WD1 control box to control up to 100 devices.
The camera shares many other features with its predecessor. There’s a 1″ sensor with 15.3-megapixel resolution and Zeiss lens with a focal equivalent of 24mm and an aperture of f/4.0. The camera is waterproof to ten meters and should be able to survive a drop of up to two meters .
Sony will make the RX0 II available in Europe as a kit with the VCT-SGR1 grip in May for 800 euros.
