Samsung investigating overheating claim Galaxy S III

Samsung has said in a statement that it is investigating the claims of overheating in its smartphone Galaxy S III. The manufacturer opened the investigation after an image emerged of a device with burn marks.

On its weblog, the Korean manufacturer states that it is aware of the conscious image circulating on the internet, in which a burned Galaxy S III can be seen. Samsung promises to investigate the incident as soon as the device in question has been sent to the manufacturer. It is therefore still unclear whether the Galaxy S III is actually at risk of overheating or whether this is an incident.

The image in question shows a device with burn marks on the bottom. According to the owner, he had connected the Galaxy S III to a car kit when the problems arose. He also claims that white flames came out of the device, melting the plastic. Because the bottom is burned, the battery, which usually gets very hot in smartphones, does not seem to be the cause of the problems.

Samsung released its Galaxy S III last month. The device has a quadcore soc of its own making and a 4.8″ screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The device has to compete with the One X from HTC, which also has a quadcore soc.
