Canon releases a new EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens. The new wide-angle 35mm fixed focal length lens for full-frame cameras is the successor to the slightly smaller and lighter EF 35mm f/1.4L USM.

The most important improvement compared to the predecessor, according to Canon, is the use of the so-called Blue Spectrum Refractive optic. The optical material would counteract color deviations by better correcting chromatic aberrations. The lens consists of fourteen elements in eleven groups and has a nine-blade diaphragm. You can focus on subjects that are at least 28 centimeters away. The whole weighs 760 grams, almost 200 grams heavier than the Mark I.

According to Canon, the lens is more resistant to water and dust than its predecessor. A fluorine-containing coating makes the front and rear lens grease and moisture repellent, and should make the glass easier to clean. The whole comes with a lens hood and has a filter diameter of 72mm. The total measures more than eight by ten centimeters. The lens should be in the shops in mid-October 2015 and will have a suggested retail price of 2099 euros.
