OwnCloud client now supports multiple accounts
The developers behind the open source storage system OwnCloud released version 2.0 on Tuesday. The latest release offers the option of synchronizing with a desktop client with multiple accounts on different servers.
This can be especially useful for users who, for example, want to synchronize a work and a private server simultaneously. They can set for each account which folders are allowed to be uploaded and which are not. For the multi-account support, the developers adjusted the interface slightly, according to a blog post.
The developers also overhauled the management of large directories. While users were previously able to control which large folders could be shared and which were not, they couldn’t make that decision until the folders were actually online. This may have resulted in a full disk, which could cause other problems.
To prevent large folders from accidentally overloading disks, the developers have ensured that users can now set a threshold value. This means that any folder larger than that value will not be uploaded by default. A notification will appear in which the user must indicate that he indeed wants to upload the folder.
Finally, the developers made some minor changes. For example, OwnCloud now supports longer path names in Windows. In addition, the open source storage system with version 2.0 also offers Finder integration into OS X Yosemite. Furthermore, both platforms support the option not to upload hidden files.
