Intel is going to release Xeon processors for laptops for the first time. The processor manufacturer has announced this. These are models in the E3-1500M v5 line. Intel will announce more details about the processors later.

The intention is that the first laptops with Xeon processors will be released this fall. Intel has been using the powerful Xeon processors in workstations for the business market for many years, but there was no real mobile version for laptops until now.

Although Intel hasn’t announced any details yet other than that the new Xeons will be based on Skylake, it is rumored that it will at least be a processor with GT4e graphics. That information surfaced in a slide which came online via a tweet several months ago. The current Skylake processor Core i7 6700K has GT2 graphics. In addition, the Xeon version would have 72 execution units, compared to 24 of the Core i7.

It’s unknown when Intel will reveal more details about its Xeon processors for laptops, but Intel has tagged its blog with IDF, the name of Intel’s developer conference that takes place every year. That will happen in a few weeks this year. It is obvious that the company will announce more details there. It is also unclear how expensive laptops with the new processors will be.
