Dota 2 Game Tournament Temporarily Suspended Due To Ddos Attack
The International, the largest e-sports tournament for Dota 2 with a prize pool of 16.5 million euros, has been suffering from DDOs attacks since Monday. Initially, only the video streams were affected, but on Tuesday the actual tournament was even stopped for two hours.
Tuesday’s first match between the teams Evil Geniuses and Complexity Gaming was halted for nearly two hours due to a DDOs attack, Arstechnica writes. It’s strange that the game itself could be penalized, which seems to indicate that the systems weren’t running in a locked lan, something Forbes even claims to know, while Ars is still balking at this. It is not the first time that Dota 2 matches have been affected by DDOs attacks, but it has never happened before that the match itself had to be stopped as well.
The tournament is organized annually by Valve. The event prize pool has been partially filled through a crowdfunding campaign and in-game sales. Valve is contributing almost a million euros. Dota 2 is the sequel to the Warcraft III scenario Defense of the Ancients. The game was officially released on July 9, 2013. A game round consists of two teams of five players who have a base on either side of the map with each team having an Ancient in the base. The artifact must be captured by the other team.
The International will be held in Seattle from August 3-8 this year.
