Apple denies that it has plans to become a telecom provider in the United States and in Europe. With this, the American tech giant disproves a rumor that appeared in the media on Monday.

Sources within Apple told Business Insider that the company has plans to become a so-called MVNO, or a telecom provider that uses someone else’s network. The sources claimed that Apple was already in talks with carriers for long-term contracts. Despite that, it could be another five years before Apple offers its services commercially.

However, the US tech giant adamantly denies on Tuesday that it plans to become an MVNO. In a statement, about which several American media write, a spokesperson says that no discussions have been held with providers. Apple also does not intend to be an MVNO, according to Reuters news agency, among others.

Unlike Apple, competitor Google is engaged in telecom activities and the company has already made its services public. For example, Google offers its first subscriptions under the name Project Fi. This telecom service can only be used by invitation.
