Samsung gives details about Tizen 3.0 and new round smartwatch
Samsung has revealed details of version 2.4 and the subsequent 3.0 of its own Tizen OS. Among other things, the company is introducing support for Unity and improved navigation in version 2.4; version 3.0 gets 64bit support, improved performance and better security.
Samsung will announce the news at the Tizen Developer Summit in Bangalore. SamMobile is there and spreads the news on Twitter. Version 3.0 of Tizen gets 64bit support, a framework for supporting internet-of-things applications, simplified but strengthened security, multi-user support, and improved performance over previous versions. In the future, the company wants to run Tizen not only on smartphones, smartwatches and smart TVs, but also on refrigerators and washing machines. Tizen 3.0 “may be out this year,” according to Samsung. The company will unleash more plans related to the Internet of Things at the Tizen Developer Conference, September 17-18 in Shenzhen, China.
Some small details have been confirmed about the Samsung Gear A, also known as Orbis. For example, the rotatable edge on the outside will have 24 steps, and it can be used to zoom, adjust the volume and control games. Also, progress bars will form a ring on the edge of the circular interface. Previously published details about the Gear A are here confirmed: The accessory will have a display with 360 by 360 pixels and a 1.65″ screen. Tizen 2.4, due out later this year, will get support for geofencing, geocoding, points of interest and improved navigation. In addition, Samsung is going to partnership with Unity and Cocos2D to enable higher level graphics rendering. Tizen will also integrate multiple open source technologies such as OpenGL ES.
