Nintendo will release 8-bit Amiibo figures in Europe on September 11, at the same time as Super Mario Maker. That says the manufacturer on Twitter. The 8-bit Amiibos are blocky versions of the pre-existing puppets to create a resemblance to what Mario looked like thirty years ago.

During the release on September 11, Mario figures will be available in blue and brown clothing that Nintendo refers to as ‘classic colour’, while the versions with ‘modern colours’ should be released on October 23. That say Nintendo Europe on Twitter.

Amiibos are dolls with NFC chips that can communicate with a Wii U console. This allows a player to save a character’s progress or get an item in a game by linking the Amiibo.

The figures are therefore equal to Super Mario Maker, a game in which players can create levels themselves and then play them. The Amiibos are available for purchase individually or in a bundle with the game.
