‘Microsoft to carry out new layoffs’
Microsoft wants to implement a major new layoff round. That reports the reliable newspaper The New York Times. According to the newspaper, the new round of layoffs comes on top of a layoff of 18,000 employees a year ago. It is unclear how many people would now be fired.
The New York Times is unable to report many details about the new layoff, except that employees in the hardware branch of Microsoft would also be affected by the new layoff. This would also include employees of Microsoft’s smartphone branch, which the company bought from Nokia last year. It would also involve a ‘big’ round of layoffs.
Microsoft may provide more details later on Wednesday. Then it may also become clear how many layoffs are involved, and whether the new round of layoffs is just as large as the mass layoff that Microsoft carried out last year. 18,000 employees lost their jobs. At the end of March, Microsoft had 118,000 employees.
