Most of the subreddits that were made private out of dissatisfaction have since been made accessible again. An argument broke out last week after the ama subreddit’s admin was fired, but things seem to have calmed down a bit.

The Verge discovered this, which states that all fifty default subreddits, ie the ones that non-logged in users see on the homepage by default, are available again after being previously put in private mode. These include the popular subreddits /r/Art, /r/AskReddit, /r/gadgets, /r/gaming, /r/IAmA, /r/movies, /r/Music, /r/science, and /r /pics. Many other, smaller subreddits are also accessible again, although some are still in private mode.

On Thursday and Friday, many popular subreddits were set to private. This came out of dissatisfaction with the company that runs the site, as it has decided to fire the coordinator of the popular ‘ask me anything’ subreddit. The conflict received international media attention after the subreddits were made private. Incidentally, the moderators of the subreddits have been complaining about the parent company for some time. They state that they are not taken seriously and that problems are not addressed.
