Google takes steps to prevent accidental clicks on ads

Google wants to take various measures to ensure that mobile users no longer accidentally press ads. This should prevent annoyances for users, and also ensure that advertisers see higher returns for their investments.

On its blog, Google explains what measures it has recently taken against ad clicks that are accidentally made on smartphones. It concerns three tricks that, according to Google, were implemented sometime this year. For example, touch registrations on the edges of advertisements are no longer converted to a ‘click’. Also, a press is no longer registered if it is close to the button to close the ad. Users then have to click elsewhere to activate the ad. And finally, ads are only clickable if they have been on the screen for some time.

With these measures, Google believes that the number of accidental touches to advertisements on smartphones will be reduced. That would not only be better for users, but also for advertisers, who don’t have to pay for clicks from users who are not interested in the advertised products. The figures show that since the introduction of the measures, Google has seen a 15 percent increase in conversion.
