Sony provides RX100 IV and RX10 II with stacked sensor with dram

Sony has announced two new Cyber-shot cameras: the compact and RX100 IV and the RX10 II with 24-200mm f/2.8 lens. Both 20-megapixel models feature a stacked Exmor RS sensor combined with dram memory.

The RX100 IV is a 20.1-megapixel camera and includes a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T 24-70mm f/1.8-f/2.8 lens, while the 20.2-megapixel RX10 II with its Vario-Sonnar T 24-200mm f /2.8 lens has a wider zoom range. The housings of the cameras have not been changed from the previous generation.

According to Sony, it concerns the first cameras with a stacked cmos chip with dram memory. According to the manufacturer, the combination provides a number of advantages. For example, the camera would read image data five times faster, compared to the previous RX100 and RX10 generation. In addition, the stacked sensor with dram enables recording of 40x slow-motion video at 1000fps, when using an sdxc class 10 memory card. Users can choose from 1000fps, 500fps and 250fps and 50p and 25p playback formats for slow motion recordings

The sensor also enables anti-distortion shutter functionality at a maximum speed of 1/32000 second, which should minimize the rolling shutter effect. The RX100 IV can shoot images continuously at 16fps, with the RX10 II that is 14fps. Both cameras can record video at a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels at 100Mbit/s, using the xavc-s video format.

The cameras will be available in the summer. The RX100 IV will receive a suggested retail price of 1150 euros and the RX10 II should be sold for 1,600 euros.
