Asus presents Zenfone Selfie with 13-megapixel front camera
Asus presented the Zenfone Selfie at the Computex computer fair, a variant of its smartphone Zenfone 2 with a front camera with a maximum resolution of thirteen megapixels and which also has its own flash.
The front camera has an aperture of f/2.2 and can make video calls or movies at a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It is a Toshiba sensor, but it is unknown which one it is. It is a 1/3.2″ sensor with pixels of presumably 1.12 µm. When HTC presented a phone with such a front camera with the Desire Eye last year, it turned out to be the IMX214 from Sony, a camera module that many manufacturers, including HTC, also used as a rear camera.
The phone also has a 13-megapixel camera on the back, but with f/2.0 and laser autofocus system, just like the LG G3 and G4. The screen has a diagonal of 5.5″ and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.
For the Zenfone Selfie, Asus has exchanged the Intel processor from the Zenfone 2 for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, an octacore with eight Cortex A53 processor cores. Why Asus has chosen to do this is still unknown. Information about the price and expected release date of the Zenfone Selfie is still missing, and whether the device will also come to the Benelux is also still unknown.
