Original Apple I computer turns up at thrift store
An electronics thrift store in the California Bay Area was delivered a remarkable product: an Apple 1 computer. Only 200 units were made of this computer and it was the very first Apple product released by founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.
The Apple I came into the hands of Clean Bay Area, a store where people can bring their surplus electronic equipment. According to an employee, an elderly woman brought some boxes of old electronics, he told NBC Bay Area. To their surprise, it turned out that there was an Apple I computer among the items.
The appearance of an Apple I computer is quite special. Only about 200 copies were made in total and the product dates back to 1976, the early days of the manufacturer. Clean Bay Area took the abandoned computer to auction, where it raised $200,000. Converted that is about 183,000 euros. It is not known who bought the computer.
Since the woman left no contact details, she has no knowledge of the value of her surplus electronics, which belonged to her deceased husband. Clean Bay Area hopes to track her down to give her half of the proceeds.
