Sony wants to have two million PlayStation VR2 headsets ready by March 2023
Sony aims to have two million PlayStation VR2 headsets made by March next year, Bloomberg sources say. Mass production of the glasses is said to have started in September. Sales of the headset should start early next year.
The production number is not yet final, sources emphasize to Bloomberg. This could go up or down depending on how the product is sold in the initial post-release period. Sony would not yet be bothered by suppliers who cannot supply enough parts.
The sources indicate that the number of two million headsets means that Sony expects the PS VR2 to be a bigger success than its predecessor. It took Sony eight months to sell a million PS VR headsets. The number of two million headsets was reached a year and two months after the introduction.
Sony has already indicated that it wants to sell the VR2 early next year. At the beginning of next year, Sony also expects that the PlayStation 5 delivery problems have been solved and the console is therefore more available, Bloomberg writes. The PS VR2 headset requires a PS5.
The PlayStation VR2 headset will get a higher resolution of 4000×2040 pixels and inside-out tracking. The glasses also get an HDR screen and a slightly larger field of view. It is not known how much the headset should cost. Upon release, the headset should get at least twenty VR games, including a Horizon spin-off.
