Rumor: Twitter is in takeover talks with Flipboard
Twitter has been in talks with Flipboard, developer of the app of the same name, since the beginning of this year. To get its hands on Flipboard, Twitter would have offered about 1 billion dollars, or about 918 million euros.
The reports of ongoing negotiations surrounding a possible acquisition of Flipboard by Twitter come from Re/code. The site relies on several anonymous sources. Talks have been going on since the beginning of this year, although no concrete deals have been concluded yet. Negotiations are also said to be at a standstill at the moment.
Twitter would have started the takeover talks after sounds from shareholders that the social network should bring in more users. Twitter may want to put up to 1 billion dollars on the table to get their hands on Flipboard, converted almost 920 million euros.
An acquisition of Flipboard, an app for Android, Windows Phone and iOS that allows you to browse content from multiple sources, could expand Twitter’s reach: Twitter currently claims to have approximately 300 million active users, compared to approximately 100 million users Flipboard were claimed last year. However, it is unclear how great the overlap is in the number of users. Moreover, according to Re/Code, the popularity of Flipboard has decreased, partly because the app is no longer installed on Samsung hardware by default.
