Hackers steal user data from Adult Friend Finder dating site
Adult Friend Finder, an American dating site for people looking for ‘casual sex’, has been hacked according to British channel Channel 4. Attackers allegedly stole the data of 3.9 million Adult Friend Finder members.
Among the stolen data, in addition to personal data such as names and e-mail addresses, would also be the specified sexual preference of users. It would also be recorded whether users are looking for an extramarital relationship. Channel 4 reports that, which claims that the attackers discuss the hack on a forum that can only be accessed via anonymization software.
An attacker named ROR[RG] would have posted the data on the forum. This would involve data from 3.9 million of the 63 million members of the casual dating website. Members who had their account deleted also appear in the database, Channel 4 says.
Malicious persons would have indicated on the forum that they want to bombard victims with spam mail; one of the members of the website, whose details appeared in the leaked database, says to Channel 4 that he has now received emails containing viruses. There is also a chance that they will try to commit identity fraud with the collected information.
The percentage of women in the database is striking. Although Adult Friend Finder tries to entice users into membership with photos of attractive women on its front page, few women appear in the database. Only 6 percent of the 27,000 leaked British accounts are women.
