The Turkish manufacturer General Mobile has presented the first Android One smartphone with an HD-ready screen and a 64-bit processor. Google provides Android One smartphones with software updates and guarantees that devices will receive new Android versions for two years.

The General Mobile 4G runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410-soc, the same processor as in, for example, the 4G version of the Moto E 2015. Partly because of that soc, the phone supports Turkish 4G networks. This makes it the first Android One device with 4G. The device has a RAM of 2GB.

The device has a 5″ screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, while previous Android One phones still have 4.5″ screens with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. The camera on the back has a maximum resolution of thirteen megapixels, while the one on the front can take photos at five megapixels. Because Google prescribes the specifications to manufacturers, it is obvious that other phone makers will come up with similar devices, where the screen resolution and soc correspond to this phone.

Android One is a line of devices, where Google makes and supports the software and where the manufacturer can only add some of its own apps. As a result, cheap devices are guaranteed to receive the latest Android versions for two years after release. It therefore resembles a cheaper variant of Google’s Nexus line.

The first generation of Android One devices appeared in India, among other places. Later, HTC and Xiaomi, among others, would also come with Android One devices. It is the first time that the sale of Android One phones in Turkey has started. That happens on Friday. The price is 699 Turkish lira, currently converted around 234 euros.
