Oculus will bring VR glasses to consumers in early 2016
Oculus is taking pre-orders for its Rift glasses at the end of this year, with first deliveries to consumers expected in the first quarter of 2016. The company will announce the prices and precise details about the hardware in the near future.
Oculus announces the start of consumer sales on its blog. The company shows a render of the new version of the glasses, which is based on the Crescent Bay prototype that Oculus unveiled last year. Compared to the Dev Kit 2 before that, Crescent Bay features two screens, 360-degree tracking and integrated audio. Until now, the company’s VR goggles were intended for developers, not consumers.
“Over the coming weeks, we’ll be revealing details about the hardware, software, input and many of our unannounced games made for virtual reality,” the company said. Oculus promises to announce the technical details of the consumer model next week.
Oculus also makes a reference to the E3 game fair, so that the consumer version of the glasses may be demonstrated there.
