Activision Announces Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5
A new Tony Hawk game will be released for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4 and Playstation 3. Publisher Activision has announced this. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 harks back to the first four Pro Skater games in terms of gameplay.
It had been known for some time that a new Tony Hawk game was being worked on. The now 46-year-old skater himself tweeted last year that a new game with his name was in the works, which was confirmed by publisher Activision. In Game Informer magazine, Activision officially announces Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. The magazine has a preview of the latest part this month.
Pro Skater 5 is being developed by Robomodo and Disruptive Games. Robomodo also developed Tony Hawk:Ride and Tony Hawk:Shred, two titles in the series that used a motion-sensitive skateboard-shaped controller. Both games were not well received by critics; sales were also disappointing. In 2011, Activision shelved the series. Tony Hawk’s Shred Session, a spinoff for mobile platforms, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, a remake of the first part, did appear.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 harks back to the gameplay of previous Pro Skater installments. New features include power-ups and the ability to shoot projectiles in certain missions. The levels can be completed alone, in co-op mode or online. It is also possible to build and share your own skate parks. The game features a number of well-known skaters, including Nyjah Huston, Aaron Homoki, Ishod Wair, Lizzie Armanto, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Leticia Bufoni, and Andrew Reynolds. Tony Hawk and his son Riley Hawk are also there.
The game will be released later this year for Xbox One and Playstation 4; a version for the PS3 and Xbox 360 should also be released shortly after. It is not yet known when the game will be in stores.
