Leica has released a new version of the M-Monochrom, a digital camera that shoots exclusively black and white photos. The M-Monochrom Typ 246, with a price tag of approximately 6600 euros, can now also record full HD videos and shows a live preview on the 3 “LCD.

The M-Monochrom Typ 246 is in fact a monochrome version of the M Typ 240 from Leica, and offers a full frame 24 megapixel CMOS sensor. The predecessor had to make do with an 18-megapixel CCD sensor. Thanks to the cmos sensor, it is now possible to shoot black and white videos in mjpeg format on the Typ 246 with resolutions up to 1080p. In addition, a live preview is possible on the 3″ LCD with 921,600 pixels. The image processing is taken care of by the Leica Maestro processor.

Because there is no color filter in the sensor, the camera takes black and white photos with more depth and clarity, and a resolution of details that would exceed the image quality of color sensors, according to Leica. According to the manufacturer, the photos also contain a fine-grained character. The ISO range is between 320 and 25,000, while the memory buffer is 2GB. Photos and videos are stored on an SD card. The camera will be released this month. In the US, the camera has a price tag of 7450 dollars, converted approximately 6600 euros.
