Apple raises prices in European App Store, also for cheapest apps
Apple is going to increase the prices of apps and in-app purchases. European users will now pay 1.19 euros for an app instead of the current 0.99. Developers also receive higher fees as a result.
apple writes that the price increases will take effect on October 5 of this year. It’s about the pricing that developers must meet when offering paid apps in the Store. These are set at certain amounts; developers can’t just calculate alternative prices.
It is striking that the prices of so-called tier 1 apps are rising. These are the cheapest apps in the Store, which now cost 0.99 euros. Apple is now increasing that to 1.19 euros per app. The prices of many apps and in-app purchases do rise more often, but then it often concerns the higher tiers. During the previous price increase, in August 2021, the price for tier 1 apps remained at 0.99 euros. Prices for current subscriptions in apps will remain the same. These cannot simply be increased without breach of contract.
The company does not give any reason for the higher prices. Apple is raising prices not only in the Eurozone, but also in several other countries. Only for Vietnam, the company cites new regulations and tax laws as the reason.
