Android TV market share in Europe has more than doubled since 2019
The market share of the Android TV operating system together with Google TV in Europe in the smart TV segment has more than doubled in the past three years. According to market research agency Omdia.
In 2019, the share of Android TV was still less than 10 percent, but that has now increased to more than 20 percent, writes FlatpanelsHD. The television website relies on figures Omdia shared during an earlier presentation; the website was present.
Due to this significant increase, a battle between three different operating systems on smart TVs is gradually emerging in Europe: Google’s Android TV, LG’s webOS and Samsung’s Tizen. It is not clear what the percentages are for webOS and Tizen in this regard.
This research only concerns the share in deliveries of new TVs; the television platforms already in use are not included. External players such as Apple TV, Chromecast and Nvidia Shield were also not included in the study.
