TikTok will require personalized ads from next month
Video platform TikTok will require users to see personalized ads from next month. Now, users can still choose not to, but the option will disappear from April 15.
From then on, all users will see ads based on the videos they watch in the app, TikTok reports, according to The Verge. That is still an option under Settings – Privacy – Personalization and data, but it will disappear. The option was already enabled by default. It is unknown how many users had disabled the feature.
However, it remains possible to choose not to include data from other parties when personalizing the advertisements. That is also on by default, but was, is and remains to be turned off according to the video platform. Advertisements are the primary revenue model of the ByteDance subsidiary.
According to The Verge, the move may be related to the anti-tracking measure in the upcoming version of Apple’s mobile operating system iOS. Apps then have to request permission to track users in multiple apps.
