Google adds pop-up information about websites to search results
Google adds more information about websites to the search results. Users can now click on a search result to get context about a website. That text is from Wikipedia.
Google adds the context information via a pop-up menu that can be called up by clicking on three dots next to a search result. The pop-up will then show a short snippet about the source website. It is a description that comes from Wikipedia, which tells what kind of website it is. According to Google, this makes it easy for users to learn more about sites that they have not visited before or are not familiar with.
If no information is available from Wikipedia, Google will fill in information there itself. This concerns, for example, information such as when the site was indexed by the search engine for the first time.
The pop-up also states whether a site is establishing an https connection. In addition, users can also directly access their privacy settings for a Google account from the pop-up. The feature will be released first in the United States, and will work in the Google app as well as on the mobile page and on the desktop.
