Organization sues Apple for not banning Telegram in App Store
The American organization Coalition for a Safer Web has sued Apple for not banning Telegram from the App Store. According to the organization, Telegram is used by criminals and Telegram does too little to tackle that behavior on its own platform.
According to Coalition for a Safer Web, Apple has guidelines against, among other things, abuse and intimidation via apps in the App Store, but the iPhone maker refuses to apply them in the case of Telegram. The coalition seems to point to guideline 1.1.1. In it, Apple states that an app is in violation if content in an app “is likely to humiliate, intimidate or hurt an individual or group.” A member of Coalition for a Safer Web was harassed and harassed by a group that had gathered through the chat app .
With the indictment, the Coalition for a Safer Web wants to encourage Apple to remove Telegram from the App Store. As a result, the chat app could no longer be installed on iPhones and iPads. These devices have a dominant position in the field of smartphones and tablets in the US.
This is not the first time that the Coalition has acted against Telegram. In a testimony before the US House of Representatives, the nonprofit called the chat app a “super spreader of extremist incitements.” Telegram and Apple have not yet responded to the complaint. Apple pulled Parler from the App Store last week. The reason for the severing of ties was the content of posts on the social medium and the lack of moderation.
