Rumor: Apple wants to return MagSafe and remove Touch Bar on upcoming MacBooks
Apple would like to bring back the MagSafe charging port and remove the Touch Bar in its upcoming MacBook Pro models. Financial news agency Bloomberg and TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo report this separately. The laptops would also get more ports.
These are models with a 14-inch screen and a 16-inch variant with type numbers J314 and J316, Bloomberg reports. Kuo, according to MacRumors, speaks of the same screen diagonals. The MagSafe port would become a separate charging port with a similar shape to the one that Apple used between 2006 and 2016. In addition, the new MacBooks could be charged faster than it has been the case until now.
MacBooks of recent years work with USB-C for charging. The old MagSafe ports have a magnetic connection, which is easy to break if the charging cable is under pressure. As a result, the cord falls and not the laptop if, for example, the user accidentally bumps into it. USB-C is not a magnetic connection.
The Touch Bar has been on MacBooks since 2016, but the upcoming new version will have a row of physical function keys, according to Kuo. Kuo also reports that more ports will be added to the laptops, so that users will need fewer or no dongles.
The laptops would get a new version of Apple’s own M1 soc that first appeared in the 13-inch version of the MacBook Pro at the end of last year. The design has also been changed, with the flat edges of the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 on the side. the top and bottom. A 14″ version of the laptop never appeared before. Kuo mentions that the laptops should be released in the summer.
