SteamOS was designed by Valve as an operating system focused on playing games, of course in conjunction with the steam store. It can also play games stream from another Linux, Mac OS X or Windows system on the network. Valve has released an update to SteamOS in the brewmaster_beta branch with 2.88 as the version number. The corresponding announcement looks like this:

Updated driver from AMD, updated linux kernel to 4.1.30, added ttf-dejavu-core to fix a crash in the Steam update UI, and the usual security fixes.
