Samsung releases Galaxy A smartphones that get three Android upgrades

Samsung releases its Galaxy A52, A52 5G and A72. The smartphones have OLED screens with a refresh rate of 90Hz and 120Hz. Samsung gives the devices all three Android upgrades and four years of security updates.

Samsung supplies the new Galaxy A phones with Android 11 and the promise that three more upgrades will follow. A new Android version is released every year, which means that the devices will receive upgrades for three years. Security updates, which appear separately from new versions, are guaranteed by Samsung for at least four years.

Only the A52 5G is equipped with a 5G modem, the A52 and A72 have to make do with 4G. The trio runs on an octacore soc that the manufacturer does not specify and the devices have at least 6GB of ram and 128GB of flash storage.

The three phones have an OLED screen with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. At 6.7 inches, the A72 is slightly larger than the A52 variants with their 6.5″ screen. The A52 and A72 have a refresh rate of 90Hz, while the A52 5G has a 120Hz screen. The larger A72 model has a 5000mAh battery, with the two smaller devices that is 4500mAh, charging is done with a maximum of 25W.

Samsung gives the Galaxy A models four cameras on the back. The primary camera is a 64-megapixel sensor with small pixels of 0.8 microns. The second camera is a 12-megapixel sensor with ultra-wide angle lens and the third is a macro camera with 5-megapixel sensor. The A52 and A52 5G also have a depth camera with a 5-megapixel sensor, with the A72 the fourth camera is an 8-megapixel sensor with telephoto lens.

The new models in the Galaxy A series are available immediately in four colors. The A52 appears in two versions, with 128GB or 256GB, for 349 or 409 euros. The A52 5G has a suggested retail price of 429 euros and the A72 costs 449 euros.
