Rumor: Nvidia is working on GeForce GTX 1630 video card
Nvidia is said to be planning to release a GeForce GTX 1630 video card. The new model is said to replace the GTX 1050 Ti and competes against AMD’s recent budget cards, such as the RX 6500 XT and RX 6400.
It is not yet known which specifications the GTX 1630 will receive, but it concerns a video card based on a Turing GPU, reports VideoCardz. The site claims that various sources have confirmed that the card is coming. It is not yet known when Nvidia will release the GTX 1630.
The GTX 1630 should take the place of the old GTX 1050 Ti. That card is still for sale and is currently in the Pricewatch from about 200 euros. The video card gets a place under the GTX 1650, which currently costs at least 210 euros. For the GPU scarcity, that was about 150 euros.
Three years ago, Nvidia released the GTX 1650. That was the last video card with Turing GPU. Over the years, various variants of that card have appeared, with different GPUs. Not all versions are for sale in all markets. VideoCardz notes that the GTX 1630 can also be a model for a specific market. The site thinks that Nvidia will use a TU117 GPU in combination with GDDR6 memory.
Nvidia hasn’t released a budget video card for a long time. The RTX 3050 is the cheapest model in the current lineup. That card has a suggested retail price of 249 dollars and is currently available in the Pricewatch from 320 euros. AMD has cheaper alternatives with its recently introduced Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400, which are available from around 175 euros.
It would be the first time that a 30 model in the GTX series appears. Nvidia has released such budget models under the GT name in the past, such as the GT 730 and GT 1030.
Nvidia’s most recent 30 card is the 2017 GT 1030.
