Developer working on Portal ‘demake’ for Nintendo 64
Valve’s puzzle game Portal has appeared for numerous platforms over the years. The game is also coming to Nintendo Switch this year. Developer James Lambert is meanwhile working on a ‘demake’ of the game for the Nintendo 64. He got a Portal Gun working.
Valve’s Source engine obviously doesn’t work on the Nintendo 64, so Lambert has to build the game from scratch. This makes the project a so-called demake: the opposite of a remake. Lambert calls his project Portal 64 and has now reached version 0.3.
In the latest version, he got a Portal Gun working on the Nintendo 64 hardware. He previously demonstrated the physics engine he made and the ability to walking through portals. The progress of the project is to follow on GitHub.
Portal was released in 2007 for Windows, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. There is already an Android port for the Nvidia Shield and later this year the game will come to the Nintendo Switch together with Portal 2.
