Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout Free-to-Play This Summer, Releases On Switch And Xbox
Mediatonic and Devolver Digital will release battleroyale party game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout as a free-to-play game starting June 21. At the same time, the game will be released for the Nintendo Switch, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S.
All current and upcoming versions of Fall Guys will support crossplay and crossprogression as of that date. That is, players with one account can play on all available platforms without losing progress and can play simultaneously with gamers on all platforms.
However, the Steam version of Fall Guys will be cancelled. Players who have purchased the game will continue to have access to the game, but as of June 21, the game will no longer be available through Steam. In the announcement mentions Mediatonic that “crossplay is fully supported when using an Epic Games Store account,” but also states emphatically that the Steam version supports crossplay. Users have long been required to log in via Steam with an Epic Games account.
Anyone who has previously purchased the paid version of Fall Guys will receive a special Legacy Pack consisting of various cosmetic items. In addition, this group of players will receive the upcoming season pass for the new Free For All season. The new season introduces new challenges, maps, events, rewards and a new progression system. Players who play from the free version can now buy the premium season pass for a new in-game currency Show-Bucks every season. It is not clear whether the coins can also be purchased with real money.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was released in 2020 for PC and PlayStation 4 and quickly became the most downloaded game ever via the PS Plus subscription. The colorful game combines the gameplay objective of a regular battle royale with a gameplay element inspired by TV shows like Wipeout and Japan’s Takeshi’s Castle.
Update, May 17, 09.02: The article originally speculated about using an Epic Games account for the Steam version of Fall Guys. On the other hand, this has actually been the case for some time, which is now better reflected in the message.
