Google Assistant will soon be able to receive simple commands without ‘ok, Google’

In the future, the Google Assistant on Android will have the option to receive certain voice commands without an ‘ok, Google’ preceding it. Commands such as silence alarms and reject or answer calls would be included.

The features surfaced after users saw the settings menu for it appear in a beta version of the Google app on Android. That should not have happened, because the functions do not work for the time being and the web page linked to at the institution is not yet accessible either. Google calls the feature “Guacamole.” It concerns app version 12.15.9.29 on Android 11.

9to5Google spoke to its sources about it and they gave away the commands that it would be about. The function is already included in Assistant, but only when it is used in combination with a Google Home or Nest Hub. That has been possible there for two years now; it was unveiled at Google I/O in 2019. Google may have wanted to unveil this feature at I/O 2021, which will take place digitally May 18-20. Google did not comment to The Verge.
