Rumor: MediaTek will have the first 4nm socs made at the end of this year for 66 euros each

MediaTek would have the first socs made on a 4nm process at the end of this year or early next year. The company would have placed an order for 4nm chips with chip manufacturer TSMC and paid around 66 euros per soc.

Not much is known about the new chip that MediaTek would like to make. It would be a Dimensity 2000-soc. It was initially rumored that it would be released on 5nm. According to rumors in various Chinese sources, that chip would now be made on TSMC’s 4nm process.

MediaTek would have placed the order with TSMC. That said earlier that it wants to start test production of the 4nm process at the end of this year. According to the Chinese sources, the production of MediaTek socks would also happen then, but possibly also at the beginning of 2022.

According to the sources, the company would pay the manufacturer for the socs for converted 522 yuan. That is converted about 66 euros, much more than current socs with 5G costs. Nothing is known yet about phones that will contain the new chips and when they will be released, or in what quantity.
