WhatsApp users will soon be able to link their email address to their account

WhatsApp has released an update that allows users to link an email address to their WhatsApp account. That email address can be used to log in to the messaging service, but does not replace the mandatory telephone numbers.

The new feature was discovered by the editors of WaBetaInfo. It writes that the email address can also be used as a destination for the six-digit verification code that one receives when verifying a new device or telephone number. The email address would also not be visible to other WhatsApp users.

According to WaBetaInfo The feature is part of version 23.24.70 of the WhatsApp app for iOS and can be found in the Settings menu, under the Account section. It is not clear whether the feature is currently available to all users.
