OnePlus 2 won’t run CyanogenMod by default
The OnePlus 2, which should be released this summer, will not run CyanogenMod, unlike its predecessor One, but OnePlus’ own OxygenOS. That says the founder of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer to an American newspaper.
The confirmation to USA Today puts an end to the rumors about the end of the collaboration between OnePlus and Cyanogen. The OnePlus One came out last year with standard CyanogenMod on board and Cyanogen still provides the device with updates. While it is possible that a CyanogenMod release for the OnePlus 2 will come out, that will be a custom ROM and not stock software.
OxygenOS is the skin that OnePlus is making itself. It has hired many developers of the custom rom Paranoid Android for that. The current version for the OnePlus One is based on Android 5.0 and is close to stock Android.
OnePlus also confirms that it will resell the OnePlus 2 with an invite system. This would be necessary to prevent delivery times from increasing or that people keep seeing ‘sold out’ on the site. The device will be released between the beginning of July and the end of September. The OnePlus One will be available from Monday without an invitation. This was already the case every Tuesday, but now also applies to other days of the week.
