Microsoft faces long-term mail problems – update
Users of Microsoft’s mail client such as Windows Live Mail have been struggling with problems with synchronizing and sending e-mail since Tuesday evening. Solving the problems is taking longer than the company expected.
Microsoft itself indicates on the Outlook.com status page that it is experiencing problems. Users have been complaining about the mail problems on the Community page since Tuesday evening. The problems occur with Windows Live Mail, Outlook Connector, MSN Premium and the mail clients of Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8. Users are unable to synchronize their mail or send mail. It is not clear how many users are experiencing the problem.
On Tuesday morning, Microsoft indicated that it was working hard on the problem, but three updates later, there seems to be no solution in sight. It is not the first time that Microsoft has had long-standing problems related to Outlook.com. In 2013 there was long downtime; the cause was then an overheating of a data center.
Update, Thursday, 12.25: The problems were resolved in the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Microsoft reports.
