Dropbox is an online storage service that allows you to sync files between different computers. In addition, files and photo albums can be shared with people who don’t have Dropbox accounts. Clients are available for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile. A free account gives access to 2GB of storage and for ten or twenty dollars a month that is 50 or 100GB respectively. Recently, Dropbox was in the news for not having its security in place. An experimental version has now been released with version number 1.2.0 that should solve these problems.

Hello!

We’re at it again with experimental builds.

1.2.0:

  • Security enhancements, an attacker will not be able to steal your computer’s account credentials just by copying configuration files to another machine.
  • New encrypted database format to prevent unauthorized access to local Dropbox client database.
  • Other small fixes
  • Continued 10.7 support

Notes:

We strongly recommend making a backup of your Dropbox before upgrading to this build as we’ll need a few weeks to be certain of its stability. We will rapidly release new builds every couple days to snipe the most common issues as they arise.

Sadly as a result of the new database some 3rd party apps that incorrectly relied on our old database format to sync with Dropbox will stop working (Examples include 1Pasword and KFilebox)
