8BitDo Pro 2 controller gets extra buttons on the back and costs $50
8BitDo introduces its Pro 2 controller. This controller includes paddles on the back, which are programmable via an accompanying app. The Pro 2 works on Nintendo Switch, Android, Raspberry Pis and PCs running Windows, macOS or Linux.
The 8BitDo Pro 2 shows similarities with the current SN30 Pro+ controller, although the new variant has some new features. For example, in addition to the two paddles mentioned above, the back of the controller has a different texture that should offer more grip than the current model.
The buttons of the controller are also configurable and remappable via the 8BitDo Ultimate Software. This application was already available for Windows and macOS, but the company is also introducing a mobile version for Android and iOS with the Pro 2. This software also allows the sensitivity of the triggers and thumbsticks and the strength of the vibration motor to be set. The buttons and paddles are also programmable with macros.

The 8BitDo Pro 2 can be equipped with three different profiles with button configurations and macros. Users can switch between these profiles via a button on the controller. Previously, this was only possible via the 8BitDo software. The Pro 2 controller also has a button that allows users to adjust the connection mode. For example, users can switch between a Nintendo Switch or Android mode.
In terms of design, the new Pro 2 is similar to its predecessor. Both controllers have a retro-style design with classic d-pad. The 8BitDo Pro 2 will be available in black and gray, or as a GameBoy-esque ‘G Classic’ edition with beige housing and purple buttons. The controller will be released in the US on April 12 and will cost $50 there, just like the SN30 Pro+. It is not yet known when the controller will be released in Europe.
