Pi-Top Announces Thinner Printable Laptop Case for Raspberry Pi
Pi-Top has announced the third version of its printable laptop case for Raspberry Pis. The new version will be 30 percent thinner than the previous one. In addition, a larger trackpad and left and right buttons have been added.
Pi-Top provides an update on Reddit on the progress with the laptop case for Raspberry Pis. “One of the most useful modifications to the old prototype of the Pi-Top is the addition of left and right mouse buttons,” said the team behind the Indiegogo project, which began in October. The makers have opted for a pcb with tactile switches on it, which are placed directly under the buttons and send the signals to the Raspberry Pi. The buttons are in fact integrated cantilever covers and these would work better than most mouse buttons on laptops, the makers claim.
They also tell 3dprint.com that the updated model is 30 percent thinner than the previous revision, from November. This would allow users who want to make the housing themselves to 3d print it faster. Other improvements include that the display can now slide into a one-piece holder and optimizations have been made to the slot where users can insert their own PCB modules.
The makers will soon start delivering kits with the Raspberry Pi B+ for 299 dollars, converted 262 euros. The Pi-Top supports the Raspberry Pi 2 but the team does not supply the minicomputer itself. Without the mini-computer, the Pi-Top costs 265 dollars, converted 232 euros.
