Google acquires makers of photo app Odysee
Google has acquired the company behind the photo app Odysee for an undisclosed amount. The developers of the app will work in the Google+ division. The photo app will stop working on February 23.
The acquisition is listed on Odysee’s website and has been confirmed by Google to TechCrunch. The team behind Odysee, an app that allows smartphone or tablet users to automatically back up photos and videos to a PC, will be housed in the Google+ division. The internet giant will not say why exactly it has acquired Odysee, but there are rumors that Google wants to set up a separate Photo service that is no longer directly linked to Google+. This service may also have the option to sync offline photos.
Nimbuz, as the company behind the Odysee app is called, also reports that Odysee will close its doors: the service can no longer be used from February 23. Existing users can download an archive file from the acquired company’s website. In addition, the Odysee app has already been removed from Google Play and the App Store.
