Hobbyist builds flying Millennium Falcon

A French hobbyist has converted his quadcopter into Millennium Falcon, the starship of Star Wars character Han Solo. His version of the Millennium Falcon can also fly, not in a ‘galaxy far far away’, but just in France.

The Frenchman, who is known on the internet by his nick Olivier C, explains on Imgur how he made the Millennium Falcon. Its base is its own quadcopter, which it has made lighter by removing GPS, the GoPro and the module to transmit video. Thus, the quadcopter is about 800 grams, while the Millennium Falcon part is between 300 and 350 grams.

The housing of the spaceship is made of polystyrene foam. The shell makes the Millennium Falcon not the ‘fastest hunk or junk’ in the universe. The maximum speed drops from 90 to 30 kilometers per hour, while the time it can fly on the battery drops from eight to five minutes.
