Samsung has released a new compact system camera. The NX500 has a 28-megapixel sensor and can shoot 4k video in h.265 format. The camera will be available in the Benelux in March this year.

The NX500 uses the same aps-c bsi-cmos sensor as the NX1 and also takes over other functionalities from that camera. However, Samsung uses a compact housing, just like its predecessor NX300. For example, the system camera does not have an EVF. The dimensions are 119.5×63.3×42.5mm and the weight is 287 grams.

Samsung has equipped the camera with its DRIMeV image processor and the ISO range is 100 – 25,600, with an extension to 51,200. Among other things, the camera can shoot video at a resolution of 4096×2160 pixels at 24fps, using the h.265 codec. Sending those UHD images via HDMI is not possible, however, and the camera also has to make do with USB 2.0 instead of the much faster USB 3.0. There is also a burst mode of 9 fps and the device has a hybrid autofocus.

The 3 “touch screen is an AMOLED panel and is tiltable. There is also support for WiFi-n, Bluetooth and NFC. The battery capacity is 1130mAh. Samsung will launch the camera in March, but the prices are still unknown.
