Twitter takes over company to offer tweets via SMS
Twitter has acquired a company to offer services such as text tweets, where phone users call a number and receive tweets from that company or artist by text message. The service aims to make Twitter more popular in areas without 3G or 4G.
When users call, they only let the phone ring once so it doesn’t cost any money because no one picks up. Then people get tweets from the company or artist who owns that song. Twitter made the acquisition of the Indian ZipDial itself known.
With the move, Twitter wants to increase its popularity in areas where mobile internet coverage is less or people don’t have mobile internet at all. In this way, the social network wants to grow further. Currently, the big growth seems to have stopped at Twitter.
It does not disclose how much the social network pays for ZipDial. Financial news agency Bloomberg says it has received that it concerns 30 million dollars, converted almost 26 million euros.
