Rumor: Apple equips larger iPad with optional stylus
Apple would equip the larger iPad with a stylus. That is the claim of an analyst from KGI Securities, the analyst firm that more often turned out to have correct information about new Apple products in advance. The stylus would be optional to bring down the price.
Since the price of the larger iPad is already higher than that of the current iPad Air 2 models, Apple would like to include the accessory as an option. In addition, it would be a relatively simple stylus without functions such as a gyroscope to enable writing on other surfaces, Apple Insider writes based on information from the analyst firm.
The stylus would enable more precise input and haptic feedback on touches in a way that is not yet possible on iOS, the analyst estimates. He cites no source for his information outside of Apple’s own patent applications. Samsung, among others, has been supplying a stylus with its Galaxy Note series of devices for several years, including last year’s Note 12.2.
The larger iPad with a screen of 12″ or larger should be released this year, it has been rumored for much longer. KGI has been right more than once. For example, before the release of the iPhone 5s, it knew that the phone had a processor with 64-bit support, while it estimated the thickness of the iPhone 5 about right.
