Pillars of Eternity will be released on March 26, developer Obsidian Entertainment has announced. The game was initially planned for the winter months, but the developer needed more time to optimize the game.

Obsidian Entertainment announced in October that the game should be released in early 2015. The release date has now been set for March 26 and the game is distributed via Steam, among others. The developer has fixed as many bugs as possible in recent months. In addition, the existing content was examined, which resulted in, for example, graphic improvements.

Pillars of Eternity is fan funded. The development studio has raised more than $ 4.16 million through its own site and a Kickstarter campaign, about 3.2 million euros at the time. With that money Obsidian Entertainment wanted to make an RPG in the style of some classics. Games such as Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale should be considered. The game runs on the Unity engine and is available for Windows, OS X and Linux.

The developer previously made games such as Fallout: New Vegas, Dungeon Siege III and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Obsidian Entertainment will not publish Pillars of Eternity itself, because Paradox will do that for the developers. At the start of the project, the plan was to release the game independently, but Obsidian Entertainment later decided otherwise. The Paradox deal did not affect the development of Pillars of Eternity.
