Samsung provides portable SSDs with storage capacity of up to 1TB
Samsung has announced the Portable SSD T1, an external solid state drive available in storage capacities from 250GB to 1TB. The T1 supports hardware encryption and has a USB 3.0 connection.
The Portable SSD T1 measures 71×9.2×53.2 millimeters and weighs approximately 30 grams. The external SSD can be connected to a PC or notebook via a USB 3.0 cable. According to Samsung, the SSD can achieve read and write speeds of up to 450MB/s. Up to 21,000 iops would be possible.
Samsung supplies the T1 with 250GB, 500GB and 1TB of storage. Data on the storage medium can be encrypted using 256bit AES encryption. Furthermore, Samsung states that the Portable SSD T1 is much less sensitive to data loss than a regular external hard drive. The so-called Dynamic Thermal Guard technology is also intended to safeguard the data under extreme temperature conditions.
The T1, which is formatted with the exfat file system by default and also offers support for the usb attached scsi protocol, is mainly intended for business users, according to the manufacturer. As standard, Samsung gives a three-year warranty on the storage medium. Prices for the 250GB model start at 200 euros.
